DC Constellation

Since we came to GW, we had walked by parts of the schools. Before the project, however, we rarely  stopped to looked at the views, such as the sky, the people, and the signals - we walked only to go to class or to meet friends. While we were walking on the streets to make our constellation drawings, we took time to appreciate the new views and to feel the city. 

The reason that we picked constellations is to show another view of DC, so we can imagine the city by air. Also, we picked Aries, Leo, and Libra, because of these signs correspond to our birthdays. We used both Google maps and the Nike GPS applications to record the routes we took as we walked.

 

We decided that Blogger is the best type of media to present our work. The different constellations can each be uploaded as a separate post along with any pictures taken. Other social media engines, such as Instagram, would put these images side by side, without any method of categorization.

Leo

Libra

This is Libra constellation.

For this project, I tried to make a straight line, but the gps did not work even though I walked same route. Also, I attach photos here each point.

Aries

This is the GPS trail that I drew based on this image.

Thoughts that I got from this experiment is that it is hard to have a straight and clean GPS trail.
I was not able to get the image of the night sky since it was cloudy and the phone camera was not able to take the image since streetlight was not enough to capture the image clearly; Resolution was really low.

Abstract

Our group wanted to use the idea of drawing using GPS. Since we are drawing the trail as a perspective from the sky, we wanted to draw something that can be inferred by the sky, which happens to be the constellation. For the project, we chose three constellation based on our birthday: Aries, Leo, Libra. Zoey and Hyunsoo had to have same zodiac sign (Libra) we added Aries to represent the current month. We will try to draw those signs by recording the trail that we walk, using smartphone app (nike+ run, werunapp, strava, etc.) The trail that is marked will be posted on a google blog (blogger).
